Specific Front Cover Research

From general research to specific research, I want to base my music magazine on the genre of INDIE or Alternative music therefore, the style of the general research hasn't got the features or the code and conventions that a typical indie magazine would have. Therefore, further specific research will enable me to gather ideas and a general knowledge of what to include in my music magazine.

This front cover is the type of style I want to base my magazine on. This seems very unique opposed to what a typical music magazine would look like. It has its own individual style relating to the indie genre not being mainstream.the faint pink of the entire picture adds a sense of purity however, being quite mysterious. The model has a very serene look about her, with the slightly parted lips and the pale complexion with striking make up. Something that I want to apply to my female model, as I believe that this striking make up is very eye catching opposed to something very plain and natural. Nevertheless, the only aspect of this magazine that it hasn't got much going on in the background therefore, appears very simple and empty. Also another feature is that I want my front cover of my magazine to include a male model for the front opposed to a female model, however, I will use a female model on the contents page therefore, I can base her make up on the striking complexion and style of this model. The title of this magazine is very bold, something I want to apply to my magazine however, even though the font used in this is very bold it still doesn't stand out very much, instead it blends into the background since they are of similar colours, instead I want to use a very simple black, as even though it is simple its still very classic and bold. The position the title is placed is something I would most definitely think about considering as I want it to slightly overlap the models head.

This front cover is most definitely the style I was thinking of basing my music magazine on however, elaborating it further to make it my own. Firstly, the use of a male model is something I want to incorporate into my magazine and for it to be in black and white. Black and white magazines are very unusual to see as most magazines are usually in colour therefore, having a magazine that is out of the 'ordinary' will hopefully stand out more as it is different. Nevertheless, I want the black and white on my front cover to be a lot striking and concentrated with a slight filter grain to it, as this seems to be quite faint therefore, doesn't stand out as much as I would want mine to. This model reflects my model I am using as he too is dark haired and suits the persona I want him to model as. However, this pose is again also very innocent whereas I want my  model to  have a quite serious look about them and instead of looking away from the camera I want him to be looking straight into the camera drawing any reader who sees it. Simple things that also make up part of a good magazine is that of the placing of the bar code, I too will have the bar code placed up the side of either the bottom right or left corner. Another aspect of this magazine that I may consider including is that of the almost scribbled writing next to the model, mine would most probably consist of a quote from the interview inside the magazine, giving it a sense of personalisation. The positioning of this title is very similar to how I want my title, left to right, being very bold and in the foreground covering part of the models head.
