Extra Photo Research

I have continued my investigation further onto focusing my attention onto specific pictures that I want to relate my magazine to and perhaps have similar images of my own based around these.

In this particular image this is the environment I would want to portray on the front cover of my magazine; primary school children with their heads down working hard, but still with a smile on their faces, so you can still see they are enjoying themselves and having a good time. An all round positive image that I want to represent not very serious, but the fun, arty enjoyable side of primary school. However, to be more specific on this picture I would only change one slight thing; to have just one individual child opposed to a group, so that the entire focus of the reader is on that one child, so theirs not too much going on around but just the one main image to grab the attention of the reader.

This is the exact type of image I would want to have, the individual primary school child utterly engrossed in what he is doing. I of course would interpret it in my on way for example perhaps have the camera angle along the table so it can almost focus in on what they are doing making the reader feel more involved in what they are looking at. But overall this is the general over view of my idea in order to produce a decent primary school magazine

Front Cover Research

Firstly, I am going to begin with the research on general school magazines. Looking at how a variety are put together, what kind of message they convey, the layout, colours, text, everything that makes a magazine its own.

I have chosen this Pre-School magazine, as the innocence of this entire picture draws the reader in. It’s not a serious ‘school educated’ picture, instead it shows the arty, fun side that pre-school can actually behold. The way the little girl is looking upwards is almost portraying that she is ‘looking up’ to a teacher, a positive few words people use in day to day life. This is the type of magazine I would like to design, a positive, happy, welcoming and inviting cover. The bright, bold primary colours attracts the eye therefore, people are more inclined to read it. However, I wouldn’t use this picture for my school magazine as I don’t personally have anyone of this age to take pictures of.

This primary school picture shows the funny, creative aspect primary school can have, again its not a serious image but in fact children smiling, messing round and showing something that they have all made, something positive that they have achieved. The optimistic words on the front cover show the encouraging views of the primary school itself. Again the bright colours attract the reader therefore, that would most definitely be something I would include in my cover.

This particular front cover focus’ on the success of this specific primary school, the colour scheme mainly red and blue again using the technique of drawing the readers attention. The picture is an action picture of the girls playing netball and it also includes a brief contents page on the front cover, something I wouldn’t include on my front cover but on the next page inside however, I would consider using a colour scheme, as a colour scheme causes the readers eye to follow the relating colours, for example at the top of the page it’s the red title, which then follows to the red of the girls bib in the centre of the picture focusing on the image then finally down to the contents part.

Getting Started

Hello, I'm Alice Hall and this is my blog! I'm doing AS Media at Wilmington Grammer for Girls and this is going to show you my step by step methods and production in order to create a Primary School Magazine; it will include a variety of investigation, from reasearch on magazine front covers, contents and double page spreads, adding to that, will be indepth decisions on fonts, images, and so forth. I will regurlarly be updating my blog in order to create a decent magazine for a Primary School.
